ABOUT ALL-STAR CLASSIC

The All-Star Classic originated in 1976 as a dream of Marshall Boys Basketball Coach Luther Bedford to promote camaraderie and fellowship among the coaches in the Chicago Public League. The game was renamed to honor Mr. Bedford in 2007. This long-running event brings together top senior male and female athletes, selected by Chicago Public League basketball coaches, who are aspiring to compete on All City and All Conference teams, as well as in the city All-Star game.

We congratulate form All-Star Classic players who have gone on to play professional basketball for the WNBA and the NBA.

ABOUT DOROTHY GATERS

In addition to being a co-founder of the All-Star Classic and the gatekeeper of the girls’ side of city basketball, Dorothy Gaters has made significant contributions as a coach, mentor and voice to the world of women’s basketball. In her 44 seasons as Marshall’s coach, Ms. Gaters, has achieved a record 1,133 wins and 206 losses, has won numerous Coach of the Year awards and has made 27 state final appearances, including three runner-up finishes and eight state trophies. Known as the “winningest basketball coach in “Illinois”, she has no intention of retiring. We are thrilled to honor Ms. Gaters at this year’s game.

ABOUT HOOP ‘TIL IT HURTS

Hoop ‘Til It Hurts is a way of living. It’s doing your very best and trying your hardest to become better – a better ball player and a better person on and off the court. Our mission is to celebrate and invest in boys and girls in our hometown of Chicago and throughout the United States by providing athletic apparel and grants to pay for costs associated with tournaments, registration, league fees, travel expenses and gear. Our programs also provide educational assistance through private academic tutors and college counseling for athletes. Twenty percent of gross proceeds from the sales of our apparel are donated to the HTIH foundation, a 501(c)(3) built upon the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to benefit from competing in basketball.
